Every hour behind the wheel is valuable. To make real progress, it’s important to approach your lessons with focus and a positive mindset.
So, how can you get the most from each session?
It starts with preparation. Arrive on time, well rested, and ready to engage. A positive attitude can go a long way.
Once I started setting myself small goals, my progress and my confidence really took off.

Reflect on your last lesson.
Think about what went well and what you struggled with. Mention it to your instructor at the start – they’ll tailor the session to build on your needs.
Stay engaged.
Ask questions. If you don’t understand something, speak up. Driving involves so many small details, and understanding why you’re doing something can help you remember it better.

Work on your weak spots.
We all have them. Don’t avoid the things that scare you, lean into them with your instructor’s support. Whether it’s clutch control, roundabouts, or parking, regular practice helps overcome the fear.
Set small goals.
Instead of thinking about the entire test, focus on one goal per lesson. Maybe it’s mastering mirror checks or finally getting hill starts right. Small wins build confidence and momentum.
Review with your instructor.
At the end of each session, discuss what went well and what to focus on next. That reflection helps turn lessons into lasting learning.
